Karyn Gojnich

State NSW/ACT
Club/Class Association Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron

In October 2018 Karyn Gojnich was selected as the Sailing team manager and coach for the Youth Olympic Games held in Buenos Aries, Argentina. Previously a Board Member of Australian Sailing as well as the Oceania Sailing Federation, she is now on the Board of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and is the Chair of the Sailing Committee. She remains a strong advocate for sailing, focusing on introducing more children and women to the sport.

Tuesday Twilight
She has led and coordinated the series over the last 12 years. In the 2013-14 season, there were 17 boats participating on a Tuesday night.  In the 2020-21 season there were 30 entries across 2 divisions; Ladies mixed division 20 and Ladies one design spinnaker division 10. Karyn organises the following;
o    Tuesday Twilight Networking night to connect sailors with skippers; sailors that need a crew position and skippers who need crew.
o    Three training sessions before the start of the series. She organised for Andrew Parkes from North Sails to be out on the water in a RIB to help review sail trim.

Ancillary courses
She organised the following courses;
o    Women in Sailing Webinars where sailors can hear from experienced women sailors such as Nickie Jones, Vanessa Dudley, Lisa Darmanin, Genevieve White and others
o    Diesel Maintenance Course for women.
o    Racing Rules webinars with Howard Elliott covering scenarios typically encountered with Tuesday Twilight racing.

Adult Learn to Sail
Karyn has taken the lead with the Ladies of the Sea Keelboat Courses over the past few years. She has been the lead instructor with each of the courses, and been instrumental in joining many new female members up to the Club.  After each course she organises a keelboat experience where a member/skipper takes graduates out on the water on their boats.  From that she has developed the LOTS Coaching Regatta, creating the opportunity to get more woman out on the water in a regatta format.

Ladies of the Sea Coaching Regatta
Karyn is the driving force behind this event.  For all participants, across racing and race management, the event aims to challenge and nurture crews with mentors, providing the opportunity for all to enhance their capabilities, build confidence and develop skills on the water. Notable Australian yachtswomen provide coaching sessions off the water and in-boat mentoring during the racing. It was first held on the 2019 October long weekend. It is open to:
o    Keelboats and one design fleets
o    Spinnaker & non-spinnaker
o    Female helm with mixed crew
o    Female helm with female crew.

Schools program
Karyn has been instrumental in setting up a schools program and running it for the last three years.
