 Wendy Watson

State NSW/ACT
Club/Class Association Royal Motor Yacht

Wendy Watson was nominated for the SheSails representative by the commodore of the Royal Motor Yacht Club Toronto in 2020 with full support of the board of directors.

Wendy organized the inaugural RMYC female skippers event which was called “SheSkippers”.

Being the first lady’s race hosted by the RMYC for a long time, the expectation was for maybe 5 entries. Through her perseverance and dedication to the task at hand Wendy  attracted 27 yachts in 2021.

Wendy then had to fund the event and she did this with the entry fee and a list of sponsors the envy of any eventheld by the club previously. It was so well funded there was a surplus of funds that was donated to the Heaven Can Wait Charity regatta also being run by the RMYC at the time.

She also competed herself taking her own yacht “Tic Toc” in the race. In the second year (2022) she set out to better her efforts from the first time. This she did with 28 entries. By this time she enlisted the cooperation of sister clubs Lake Macquarie Yacht Club (LMYC) and Wangi Amateur Sailing Club (WASC).

In fact Wendy arranged for the three clubs to run a Tri-Series with a trophy being presented for the bestperforming lady from the three races. It attracted entries from Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club, Croudace Bay Yacht Club, LMYC and WASC. . The race catered for yachts of all sizes from 20 feet right up to 56feet long.

The SheSkippers event has been an absolute credit to Wendy Watson.
