Australian Sailing launches SheSails

On International Women’s Day 2019, Australian Sailing is pleased to announce the launch of our national female participation brand, SheSails.

Australian Sailing has a strategic objective to increase female participation. The SheSails brand is designed to be a focal point for recognising all of the amazing female contributors to our sport, and to encourage women of all ages to get involved in sailing through organised activities at their local club.

To mark the launch, Australian Sailing is releasing a SheSails marketing toolkit for clubs to use in promoting female participation in sailing. The toolkit is intended to help clubs shine a spotlight on the outstanding SheSails activities they are running at clubs around Australia, from organized yoga classes at sunrise to racing at sunset.

Australia is lucky to have such a proud history of females who have contributed so much to the promotion and advancement of our sport. That history includes pioneers Kay Cottee AO and Jessica Watson OAM, Olympic Champions Jenny Armstrong OAM and Belinda Stowell OAM, Paralympic Champion Leisl Tesch AM and Australian Sailing Female Sailor of the Year and Offshore Sailor of the Year Wendy Tuck. SheSails looks to build on this proud heritage, and to encourage more females to head down to their local club and discover sailing in a fun and friendly environment.

SheSails aims to:

  • Promote and celebrate female participation in the sport of sailing
  • Unify all female participation activities run across the country under one SheSails brand
  • Provide clubs with visual materials and case studies to help grow female participation in recreational and competitive sailing
  • Provide new and existing female sailors with the opportunity to enjoy activities at their local sailing club with like-minded people
  • Develop an online platform to feature female-focused events and programs across the country

The SheSails brand package includes a guidelines document, along with examples of clubs from around the country who are currently running successful female-focused activities, events and programs. Along with the launch there will be a brand new SheSails website, Facebook page and a digital assets pack for clubs to use to promote the brand including social media banners, pop-up banners, poster templates and other promotional collateral to be printed or used digitally.

Australian Sailing’s network of Club Services Officers and Regional Managers can assist your club get involved and share some of the great initiatives that are already underway across the country.

Additionally, Australian Sailing have submitted an application to SportAUS for a grant to develop a full nation-wide SheSails program in the future, which would provide an opportunity to add further resources to assist club-based activities.
