Big weekend of SheSails events in Tasmania

Published Thu 18 Nov 2021

The weekend of 13 - 14th November had two great SheSails events take place in Tassie, read on below for the recap.

SheSails @ Sandy Bay Sailing Club – Saturday 13th November:

Last Saturday Sandy Bay Sailing Club were very fortunate to have Kellie Wilkie come and talk to a group of girls from the club and their parents about ‘the female athlete’. Kellie is a physio at Body Systems and has worked closely with elite athletes, with a specific interest into what makes female athletes different and how to maximise their performance.
With more than 20 people listening in, it was great to see a range of ages and girls keen to learn more about what Kellie was presenting.

“It was a really great talk and it was interesting to see how we can improve our sailing by using different training methods better suited to our bodies as girls” said one of the teenage sailors.

A very impressive turn out for the first SBSC SheSails event of the season – with more to come!

SheSails @ Bellerive Yacht Club – Sun 14th November:

On Sunday 14th November Bellerive Yacht Club held their first SheSails event.

The female volunteers and participants had a very enjoyable morning meeting new people and learning new skills. Learning from each other we had lots of laughs and fun. Participants gained hands-on experience packing a spinnaker, flaking a headsail and practising knots. Volunteers left smiling and feedback from participants was positive.

SheSails BYC will now review suggestions for future events and will be posting events on the SheSails facebook and Instagram pages.
