Balmain Sailing Club has a long history of encouraging women to compete in sailing events.
It was the first sailing club in Australia (then Johnson’s Bay SC) to condone women skippers with Irene Pritchard becoming well known as a champion skipper in the late 1890’s in her 8ft skiff Zephr.
Last Friday’s yacht racing results reflect the continued success of our women sailors with all five yacht races won by women skippers.
In the twilights, congratulations to winners:
- Div 1 Jiang Lin in her X43 ‘Min River’,
- Div 2 Susan Geary in her Hanse 315 ‘Days Like This’,
- Div 3 Linda Bell in her Magic 25 ‘Airspeed’, and
- Div 4 Lynn Evans in her Northshore 31 ‘Sassy’.
In the Friday afternoon pursuit race, Amanda Chadwick was first over the line in her Magic 25 ‘Kookaburra’.
A fantastic result for our talented women sailors, fittingly in the same week as International Women’s Day.
