Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron

What Part do you play in our sport?

Tell us how you first got involved with Sailing.
My Dad has always been a keen sailor, so I've been sailing all my life really. I first became more interested in the sport when we moved to Australia in 2004 and I completed a Tackers course at RQYS, and then joined my schools' Teams Racing team.

There are many pathways in sailing, where has your journey taken you?
On my sailing journey I became an instructor, and a Coach for another girl’s school.

Whatever part of sailing you belong to, tell us about what you enjoy about your sport?
I enjoy the interactions that you get to have and the mix of people that you get to meet. As well as learning about all the different types of boats.

What would you say to someone thinking about getting into sailing?
Definitely give it a try, it's an amazing feeling being out on the water. Make sure you use a program like She Sails, so that you're in capable hands rather than working things out by yourself.

Tell us your favourite story ….
There's far too many to tell! During high school, my team competed at a teams racing event in New Zealand which was, although freezing, very memorable. Numerous capsizes, falling in the water, 2 trips to hospital, picnics out at Peel Island....
