Tell us how you first got involved with Sailing

My husband and I were burned out restauranteurs who had a plan to sail around the world. I had no experience sailing so did a short course in Sydney. After 13yrs in our artisan bakery we sold the business and purchased a brand new 48ft Beneteau Oceanis and flew to Spain with our 6yr old Son to live abroad.

There are many pathways in sailing, where has your journey taken you?

It took me on a journey sailing through the Mediterranean, across the Atlantic Ocean, through the Eastern Caribbean island chain, Culebra, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Bahamas and East Coast USA over the course of 2yrs living aboard. We were going to sail all the way back to Australia but Covid made that impossible. I now use my yacht as a skippered all inclusive charter vessel in my business Sail Lake Macquarie.

Whatever part of sailing you belong to, tell us about what you enjoy about your sport?

I like how physically demanding it can be and that it keeps me fit and strong. I like the serenity of night sailing. I like being out on the ocean surrounded by blue. I like spotting land after days at sea. I like the family time I have sailing with my Son and husband and team work skills that we have developed. I like giving my guests the experience of sailing on a beautiful yacht.

What would you say to someone thinking about getting into sailing?

Go for it. Don't procrastinate on it. Do a course such as competent crew or day skipper to understand the fundamentals.

Tell us your favourite story ….

Sailing in the ARC race 2018 was epic! 17 days at sea from Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia. We took on 3 crew plus the usual myself, Husband Roy and Son William. We had perfect trade winds, wing on wing the entire time. Caught Mahi Mahi and Tuna and all had the best time.
