What Club, Association or company are you involved with?
Southport Yacht Club
What Part do you play in our sport?
Sailor, Instructor, Coach, Club Flag Officer
Tell us how you first got involved with Sailing.
Sailed at a school camp and loved it
There are many pathways in sailing, where has your journey taken you?
I started learning to sail through a programme, and then I sailed at the club doing training and racing. Then I got my assistant instructor qualification so that I could work at the club. I got into the Queensland Sailing Team for two years and completed at nationals multiple times. I then started to coach more -getting my qualifications - as my squad started to get smaller.
Whatever part of sailing you belong to, tell us about what you enjoy about your sport?
As a kid I loved the independence and problem solving of sailing, and still do but I also now tend to enjoy the completion and skill-building
What would you say to someone thinking about getting into sailing?
Just try it, great way to make new friends and do something different.
Tell us your favourite story ….
At the Ok dingy states, it was my first time sailing that type of boat, and it was 20-25 knots. Everyone was doing granny jibes- basically, 360s and I decided to do a real jybe and caught up three spots.
