Tell us how you first got involved with Sailing

An 18th birthday present from parents was sailing lessons at CYCA. Raced competitively and consistently but quit 3 years later due to lack of opportunities for a young, shy girl who was the only one in the family who sailed. Over 25 years later when my twins were nearly 16 I saw a Discover Sailing day advert at NCYC. I enrolled, dug my sailing gloves out of my bedside table that never moved and even went to NZ and back. Loved the day and haven't really looked back. Completed all the courses and participated in many local and interstate regattas on keelboats.

Whatever part of sailing you belong to, tell us about what you enjoy about your sport?

I love the camaraderie, the friendships, the social aspect of working together as a team to get the boat moving. And every sail is different- no two sails are the same.

I have loved it so much and have a desire to extend my skills in helming and seamanship so have bought a boat with a girlfriend, a Holland 25. It's called Little Miss and so far in 4 months of ownership has provided many laughs.

What would you say to someone thinking about getting into sailing?

Give it a go! You never know if you don't try.

Tell us your favourite story...

My friend and I felt very proud of ourselves when we took our boat off the mooring for the first time and actually sailed her on our own! We did it! And got the boat back into the mooring in a heavy breeze. Still got lots to learn about the boat but we will get there.

Another story, the dancing at the end of a regatta! Oh what fun!

Two days of Elliot racing with 6 races each day, 2 kite runs per race. They work us hard in the She Sails regattas. We come home absolutely exhausted but grinning from ear to ear.

Deliveries and sunsets and sunrises.

Ps. The photo  is from the ladies of the sea Regatta with my friends, Belinda and Bronwen
